50 years old

Yesterday Brasília, Brazil's capital city, turned 50. (Read about its creation here).

I lived in Brasília for 8 years and it has meant a lot to me.

This is a picture I found of French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud (on the right) and some guy in Brasília, probably taken in the 1960s. Léaud is the star of one of my favourite films of all time, The 400 Blows (Les quatre cents coups), by François Truffaut. The Brazilian National Congress, with the white columns and large dishes on the sides, is behind him.

There's no place like it on earth.

i buy a book by its cover

My criteria for buying a book consists of answering 'yes' to two questions:

1. Does the content inspire me?

2. Does it have a pretty cover?

That's it.

I love good-looking book covers. For a while now I have wanted to pay tribute to stylish book covers, so here it is. The images are taken from The Book Cover Archive.

yes, I watch big brother brasil

I watch it obsessively. And they are down to the three finalists. Tomorrow all of Brazil will know who has won the big prize of R$ 1,5 million reais (over 800 thousand dollars). It'll either be...

Dourado, a jiu-jitsu fighter and a closeted homophobe,

Fernanda, who has said she will spend the prize money on plastic surgery,

or Cadu, a sweet angel from heaven above, who is also the one I am rooting for.

This post is really a tribute to Cadu. A 24 year old personal trainer from Rio de Janeiro. Despite his young years, he is kind, consistent in his opinions and makes me want to carry his children.

He is completely not the type I go for. This is more my style:

But Cadu...

makes me sweat.

a tribute

I know you all know about him already. Justin, the 29 year old genius behind shitmydadsays, who decided to put the annoyance that is Twitter to good use. He quotes his even more genius father, who is 73 years old.

This is a tribute to Justin and his father, who make you laugh AND think.

This was October 12th:

"That woman was sexy... Out of your league? Son. Let women figure out why they won't screw you, don't do it for them."

Blew my mind.
